English Christianity grew out of the British Church as well as the missions of St Augustine. There are many legends surrounding British Christianity that have become part and parcel of English Christianity, not least the legends of Joseph of Arimathea and the influence of the Druids. These legends still have the power to hold our imagination and inspire us. They also show us that British and English Christianity has a distinct identity and origin that pre-dates the Roman Catholic Church, its doctrines and dogmas and even the New Testament itself.
